Below is a design solution-cum- interface of a reading app that targets the technology-addicts.

Overview

This is an android app with short reads present in all possible genres and regional languages of India. The idea emerged when the stats were put forward, of people who prefer reading while commuting, waiting for shorts of period time and those yearning for a mind refresh every now and then. This reading app, consists of ensnaring reads, and has a vision of being greatly accepted.

Research

Throughout the research phase, we learned about our users’ pain points and how we could assist them via our app. We got a good understanding of what our challenges would be while designing the app, and we undertook them just about the right way.

Challenges

1. We predicted that our users would comprise of:

  • 16–25 year olds ( Well-versed with apps and smartphones )
  • 25–35 year olds ( Particular about apps used )
  • 35–40 year olds ( With little or no tech know-how )

2. Most smartphone users wish for a simpler payment method within an app they use.

Information Architecture

We began with quick prototypes to make sure there were no major usability issues. After all, we believe in never compromising UX for UI. Based on customer feedback, analytics, research and numerous team discussions, we realised we wanted an engaging and addictive way for users to read more and for cheaper and/or free. Once we had the arrangement and nomenclature in place, user experience figured out, we sketched out High Fidelity Wireframes to help us test our app faster and more efficiently.

Solution

The reading interface is kept simple and the design precise. The purpose of the app reflects in it’s name and has a minimalistic color tone.

The payment process includes a basic credit recharge and deduction flow, which is less time-consuming and more user-friendly. Also, the focus has been laid on providing the user with more free content.

Outcome

The look and feel of the product.

Color Palette and Typography

We went with subtle pastel colors to provide the App a royal and simplistic tone. ‘Roboto Slab’ is used for the Reading Experience whereas ‘Poppins’ covers the entire scope of the App.

Tools Used

We wouldn’t go very far without Coffee and of course, these tools.
