No doubt, iPhones already come with a lot of awe-inspiring ringtones, but having a custom iPhone ringtone one just takes things to another level. Amusing, right?

Besides all this, ringtones also serve a useful purpose. You can set your favourite song as a ringtone or, better yet, assign different ringtones to different contacts. Doing this will help you to know who’s calling without taking your phone out of your pocket. Am I right?

Well, if you don’t know then, let me tell you something cool, creating a custom ringtone and setting it on your iPhone is too easy as a piece of cake, not rocket science. There’s nothing technical.

However, It is a little bit difficult than downloading a third-party ringtone directly on your iPhone. But with a bit of help, everyone can do it.

In this article, I will explain how you can turn any song from your iTunes music library into a custom ringtone. This process involves copying files, changing names, and also changing extensions. So, to get it right, follow the steps I’m about to tell you. I assure you that after following this tutorial, you’ll have your very own unique, custom ringtone. Let’s make a start.

Creating a Custom Ringtone for your iPhone

#1: Open iTunes on your computer. Its icon is a musical note with a white background. If you are prompted to update iTunes, click Download iTunes. Then, wait for the update to finish installing. You’ll need to restart your computer after this.

#2: Make sure that the song which you want as your ringtone is on iTunes. Most people don’t know this, but one of the abilities of iTunes is to crop songs. So, you will need iTunes to trim the song.

If iTunes is your computer’s default music player then, you can add the song to iTunes by double-clicking on it. If iTunes is not your computer’s default music player, you can add a song by clicking on File > Add File to Library and double-clicking the music file that you want to use.

#3: Now, open your music library and select the song or audio which you want to use as your custom ringtone.

#4: Find the section of the song that you want to use as a ringtone. You have to take a 30-second clip from your song. The ringtone cannot be longer than 30 seconds, after which it starts to loop. So, pick something that makes sense, and is according to your taste.

#5: You have to choose a specific time for your ringtone to start and end. For this, you have to open the song’s information menu. Right-click on the song, click ‘Get Info,’ a window will open.

#6: Click on the ‘Options’ tab. It’s at the top of the information menu window.

#7: Check the ‘start’ and the ‘stop’ boxes. This will allow you to change the start and the stop time for the song.

Now, all you have to do is to give the start and the end time of the song, which you want as a custom ringtone. Once you are done with your timings, click ‘OK.’ This will save the song’s changes and exit the menu.

#8: You have to create the AAC version of the song. To do this, Right-click on the song again and then click on ‘Create AAC Version.’ Once you do this, iTunes will make a copy of the original song, which will have the custom duration given by you.

#9: Right-click on the newly created song, and click on ‘Show in Finder.

#10: In the Finder folder, Right-click on the newly created song and click on ‘Get Info.

#11: In the ‘Name and Extension’ drop-down, change the extension of the song from .m4a to .m4r, and save your changes.

#12: Place it on your desktop. It’s better to change the name of the ACC version of the song to make it easier to identify.

At this point, you are done with creating a custom ringtone for your iPhone. Well done!
