My Medium Addiction is So Real It Ruined My Social Media Detox

I made a bold proclamation yesterday — I would unplug from all social media for an entire day, including my beloved Medium.

I know, how could I ever survive without checking my notifications or reading all of your thoughtful comments?

But hear me out.

As a social media manager constantly responding to DM’s, comments and last-minute changes to the restaurant’s menu, I was burnt out. My eyes glazed over the other day as another “Instagram influencer” with a measly few hundred followers asked for yet another #sponsored post.

I had enough. I needed a break.

The day started off smoothly.

No scrolling through feeds or compulsively checking notifications. I reveled in the freedom of having my time to myself, no longer a servant to the almighty Instagram/TikTok Algorithm.

The sun shone a bit brighter and the birds chirped a bit louder. I went for a leisurely stroll through the park and called my best friend for a long overdue catch-up.

Pure bliss.

But then, something changed.

I felt a subtle itch, a slight discomfort I couldn’t initially identify. But soon it became clear…
