8 Main Characters From TV Shows Who Are The Worst
Strong characters are integral to the success of a great T.V. show. But sometimes there are main characters that totally miss the mark and come off way more annoying than charming. Here are 8 main characters that I could absolutely do without.
Nick Miller — New Girl
I think the intent with Nick’s character is to be charmingly immature. There’s absolutely nothing charming about a man over 30 years old that has no ambition, acts like a child, and whines about practically everything. Jess could do so much better than him. Yes, she’s a delightfully quirky character, but she also has a great head on her shoulders. Nick Miller was way below her.
Lori Grimes — The Walking Dead
Thankfully, we didn’t have to be disgraced with Lori’s character very long. Her death was certainly tragic — I admit that I cried when she died giving birth to her daughter — but I wasn’t the least bit sad to see her go. There wasn’t one thing that made viewers dislike her. Her presence was just annoying. She didn’t provide much excitement to the screen. She wasn’t a kick-ass fighter. She wasn’t intuitive about what was happening. Her character created a mildly interesting love triangle that made everyone root for Rick to leave Lori and Shane behind.
Ray Barone — Everybody Loves Raymond
If you’ve had any experience with a “man” from Long Island, you know that the accuracy of this show is spot on. A grown man that can’t let go of being emotionally supported by his parents? He fed into his parent’s favoritism of him. It was so pathetic. I’m surprised Debra didn’t leave him, to be honest. I dated a watered down version of Ray Barone, and I’m all too glad to have escaped a similar fate Debra experienced.
Marissa Cooper — The OC
In the beginning, Marissa seemed like a pretty interesting character. But she took such a downward spiral that seemed to have no end. Trouble and misfortune just followed this girl around and she let it take her down. She was surly and depressive for basically the entire series. Poor Ryan. He had the opportunity to get out of the mess of a bad neighborhood only to be pulled into Marissa’ rich girl melodrama. People say the show was so terrible after she left, but I actually enjoyed the fourth season. What more could they really have done with Marissa anyway?
Chuck Bass — Gossip Girl
I will never understand the infatuation with Chuck Bass. He was a sleazy excuse for a man. He used women for sex. He was controlling. He cared more about himself than he ever cared about anyone else. Have we all forgotten what he did in the first episode? He tried to rape Jenny Humphries. But somehow by the end of the show audiences loved him. Frankly, Blair was far too classy for Chuck. Sure, she was manipulative in a way. But she actually seemed to have some grace to her. Chuck and Blair are as far from “goals” as it gets. If you want a relationship like that, you might want to consider seeing a therapist.
Susan Mayer — Desperate Housewives
I never understood why Susan was the “main” housewife. She was undoubtedly the worst one. Her innocent, clumsy act was just that — an act. It was so played out. She was constantly acting like the victim and it just got old after a while. Her storylines were often uninteresting. Pairing her with Mike Delfino was really the only saving grace. Mike was an amazing character and was the only interesting thing about Susan.
Ted Mosby — How I Met Your Mother
Is it any wonder Ted took so long to find “the one”? He was insufferable! Ted was so fiercely focused on finding that perfect relationship, but he had no problem treating other women like shit. He seemed to be under the impression that he was deserving of this extraordinary love but he didn’t have much to offer in the way of a relationship. The only thing Ted seemed to do for nine seasons was whine about not being able to find love. Hard pass.
Dawson Leery — Dawson’s Creek
For a character who was named for the series, you would think Dawson would be a relatable, enjoyable character. That was far from the truth. Dawson’s love and passion for movies were certainly inspirational. But he seemed to live in a fantasy world. He wanted life to look like a movie. That’s not exactly how it works, pal. Along with most of the other characters on this list, Dawson was whiny and entitled. Let’s be honest, the other main characters carried this series.
