Breathe

What will happen if I try to touch her?

Looking in the mirror I can see the
Shards that have cut her

She tries to breathe but
Fears hold her there,
Seeing all the fragments of
Who she used to be

She tries to draw on her strength, but all she
Feels are the lies eating at her soul,
Cutting into her heart

I can see the scars along her wrists
Strawberry gashes on this young night

She tries to stop the pain,
Too small to matter

I see the shards become her comfort,
Until she refuses to breathe anymore

Pieces fall and shatter —
Never to be put back together…
