Choked Confessions

there it was

a burning in her throat

it had nothing to do

with the alcohol

but everything to do

with the feelings

she drowned herself

in finding herself

at the bottom of bottles

and empty beds

of being told

she was worthless

and deeming it hard

to fight the lies

so she nursed away

her sorrows

in dark rooms

she wasn’t drunk

on alcohol

but on the idea

of finding love

for herself

she prayed

found hollow

silence instead

she pleaded

her tears

were a series

of choked confessions

came to the conclusion

that this love

she sought

was one

that not even

God could

make into wine
