Human Beings are Inherently Good…Right?

You couldn’t be more wrong.

Recently, I have been contemplating the philosophy of good and evil. Are we born good, or are we bad from the very beginning?

From a very early age, we learn about gender roles, race, religion, sexuality — and the inequality and prejudices that go along with them.

From the minute we learn to walk, talk, and soak up knowledge, society feeds us information that it deems acceptable as “normal”. These cultural norms that become ingrained into our being create who we are and how we interact with others.

It allows us to hate and to judge without a second thought.

But what about before all of that? There is a time where we are young and full of love. We accept all of those different from ourselves. We are pure. We are good.

How do we fight societal norms? How do we make our way back to the people we were before we were manipulated into being hateful and prejudice? Is it even possible to concur such a powerful force?

I hope so. I believe so. Because I choose to love.
