It’s Coming, I’ve got the Summertime Blues

I don’t get depressed in the fall and winter like most people do, I get depressed when most people are coming out of their depression, spring and summer. I guess my seasonal affective disorder works backwards.

First, I prefer the colder weather to the blistering heat. I love the crystalline fragility of a snowflake and the majestic beauty of falling leaves. I hate sweating, not to mention the bugs. I love curling up under a blanket with a good book and a cup of tea and chocolate. I love big, comfy sweaters.

I know many of you like the spring flowers (overrated), and in summer, you like that you can swim (I can go without, especially since I don’t like being seen in a bathing suit). Picnics, barbecues, parties, I say eh, I’d rather be under my blankie with my book watching the snow fall.

Not to mention, the holidays are way better in the fall and winter than spring and summer. Who needs Easter and the 4th of July when you’ve got Halloween, Thanksgiving, and wondrous Christmas!!

I realize I am in the minority when it comes to this. To each his own, I guess. But how do I deal with my summertime blues? I’ll tell you. I retreat to my basement bedroom where it’s always 69 degrees and watch Christmas movies all summer long. Sometimes, I’ll go on Amazon and shop for Christmas gifts, yes, this early. We’ve all got to deal with our seasonal affective disorder in our own way.

I hope all of you enjoy your favorite time of year because soon enough, it will get darker earlier, the leaves will start to change, temperatures will drop, bugs will disappear, and then it will start to snow again!! I can’t wait!
