Kill My Spiders: A Poem

It’s terrifying
when you’re least expecting it.
Like anything.

I scream
…before realizing it’s just me.

I remember once
when you were gone
and I spent minutes
trying to get rid of it.

You chuckled at the story.

It’s a fear
I can’t explain.
Can anyone, really?

Like anything.

But you calmed all those fears.
Maybe I relied on you too much.

Even if I knew I could do it.

Heart racing,
shoe in hand,
I prepare myself.

Multiple swings.
It’s finally done.

Can you come back?
At least to kill my spiders…
