Noose

This all started
Simple and kind,
But the noose was
Already around your heart

The flowers and gifts
Live in my home and
I feel like a stranger
In my own space

You’re a memory
Visiting in my dreams,
Invading my mind
During the day

All I want is to
Forget you — it’s
Kinder than your death

How do I remove
Love destroyed by a pain
So severe I am
Afraid I’ll never recover?

Like the wilting roses
You last gave me —
We all live, then die and this

I can never deny.
