Summer Dusk

Something about summer
Streams in hot
In torrents
Through dusty windowpanes
Pouring crossed with shadows
Over eyes and face
As the heat curdles into dusk
Into deepening night
Thick with gurgles
And chirps of things
That buzz and flutter
An urgent heat
That shivers like whispers
Like stolen winds
Trapped and held away
As the world holds its breath
And settles steady
And waits for the coming dark
