What if it doesn’t work?

I try to catch your stare
Desperately desiring to look into the eyes
I love so much.
Please, look at me, I think.

Don’t think I haven’t given this thought
Because I have —
What could happen
If the once bright flame was extinguished.

Well, at least we burned.

What if you care more about the idea?

I’ve been forced to think of this too —
And you’ve asked once before
So long ago —
My conclusions have been the same.

My heart has never changed.

What if there are just too many changes?

Don’t think I went into this naively —
I know change happens.
But it’s how you deal with it
That really matters.

It’s nothing we can’t handle.

I long to say a lot of things
But I won’t
Because sometimes
We just have to take it slow.

And the question
Comes again.
Internal battles are often the worst
Aren’t they?

What if it doesn’t work out?

But, oh…
Sweetheart…
What if it does?
