Willow Bride

Fingertips etched with blood,
Soft cheeks echo sadness
Too young to know, unified by
Phantasms wrapping in veins
From the smiling skull.

Rejoice with the dagger,
Hallelujah, engrave your
Headstone this autumn night under
The old willow tree whose branches
Try to cradle you.

Grated fingernails, the dark earth
Reflects moonlight in violet eyes,
Still open, still seeing, still blinking:
“What are you doing?”

Here is your doorway, blocked with
Legal documents, the absolved white union,
The veil is ripping into shreds.

Bury it all, temporary secret place in
Backyard woods, no neighbors.
The willow tree cries, forced down
By the weight of the body that
Sought eternal unification.
