One of my work colleagues and her family bought a house and invited us all to celebrate yesterday.

She has a husband, 2 kids, a dog, a cat, a yard, a swimming pool, etc. There were about 15 of us in total, some of us kids.

People were drinking, swimming, barbequing, and having a wonderful time.

And I was BORED. OUT. OF. MY. MIND.

Hear me out. I love my colleagues, they are wonderful people. They are sweet, fun, helpful, I’m grateful to be spending my days with them.

But I hate parties.

This wasn’t exactly a party and I still hated it.

It’s boring. I pretend to be having a good time because faking it is easier than constantly being asked ‘What’s wrong? Are you feeling ok? Why aren’t you having fun?’ I’m not having fun because this is not fun for me, just like for you it’s not fun to be writing articles on life lessons at 3 in the morning. For me it is. That’s the difference.

For you fun is small talk, for me fun is big talk.

You don’t have to convince me to drink more, to jump in the pool, to dance. You don’t have to make me have…
