Cogastro is a Lithuania based start up aiming to improve sustainability in the global agriculture sector by providing intelligence to insect farmers and helping improve protein production efficiency and profitability.

Climate-KIC RIS Accelerator team from Europe: IBC 2019 in Frankfurt

We have been selected for the Climate KICK acceleration program on April in Vilnius, Lithuania. The program presents an enormous opportunity for us to contribute positively to the United Nations global sustainable development goals to fight against climate change.

It is noteworthy that around 26 % and 33% of the planet’s ice-free land in use for livestock grazing and croplands for feeding livestock for human consumption respectively. Livestock grazing and feeding are responsible for around 7–15 % of the total greenhouse gas emissions globally.

Apart from the climate impact, freshwater reserves and quality land are already under excessive pressure from agriculture, drainage, dredging, damming, pollution, extraction and silting.

Notably, insects are rich in protein and contain all the nutrients that we get from meat. Various researches show that insect emits less CO2, less water, require less food and from 5 to 10 times less land in comparison with livestock (depending on the species). It is on this premise that we are innovating continually — by providing data-driven software that empower insect farmers to make well informed farm management decisions in real-time to enhance growth and productivity.

Cogastro’s allows insect farmers to visualize farming performance through reports that are updated constantly. It also organizes operational and management data by digitalizing them for analytics purposes to demonstrate and assure traceability as well as transparency. These, in general, help insect farmers to improve productivity and efficiency as well as revenue in an eco-friendly way.

The KIC program provide us with the support required to fully develop the software and improve its interface for business growth and development.
