Takeaways from the PartnerWorld Leadership Conference

Last week, I had the opportunity to both attend and present at the PartnerWorld Leadership Conference in Las Vegas. I was excited to be surrounded by so many of our partners across a number of industries. These companies are harnessing the power of IBM’s cloud and cognitive technologies, IoT and analytics, for the benefit of their business and our customers.

My presentation focused on our path to digital transformation — and the important role that our partners play. Matt Thomson, Chief Product Officer of Bitly joined me on stage to share how Bitly is working with IBM to help their clients.

For me, the highlight of the event was learning about the innovations our various partners are making. I’d like to highlight a few:

  • Bitly, a link management platform, which was originally created to help users shorten URLs or links, primarily to share via Twitter, has now become a critical component to some business line operations, as people look to condense how they communicate. The company’s mission is to create transparency across the internet by aggregating and storing link/cookie data which gives powerful marketing insights to its users. Levering IBM’s cloud, analytics and distribution platforms to scale globally, Bitly now shortens more than 600 million worldwide.
  • Senior Sistemas enabled Arroz Urbano, a rice grower and distributor in Brazil, to take a leap forward in its industrialization by developing an IoT solution to enhance productivity and avoid line interruption. Through an LED-based sensor connected to an IoT platform, the system allows real time volume tracking and notifies line leaders via SMS when silos are filled.
  • SIS and Photizo Group came together to build an IoT solution that helps major print and imaging manufacturers optimize operations, reduce service costs and maximize uptime. Currently, the production environment is monitoring 30,000 devices but is scalable for over one million devices with the power of Watson IoT.
  • Zumata, the only artificial intelligence-powered hotel distribution and technology company, is harnessing IBM Watson to enable automated advisory and customer service to companies in a wide range of industries. Zumata represents 400,000 properties globally and is helping maximize sales for the clients they work with.

These companies are tremendous examples of why our partner community is so vital to both our clients and to our business. I am impressed and energized by the great work our partners continue to do around the world.
