The Evolution of Ideas
Written by Echo(Shuo) Ma
Everything begins with an idea. Yet the establishment of great ideas is never easy. To generate great ideas, people usually have to first collect insights from observations and speculations, and then nourish them with lots of patience, reflections, and attention; after that is to challenge the thoughts with different view point and discussion, and then repeatedly revise and optimize the original idea…
Inevitably, our team went through the same challenging yet existing process with generating app ideas (But because we are such a talented group, we finished it in a week ;)). After got everyone’s consensus of making a lifestyle app, each team members came up with several app ideas individually and put them on a google doc over the weekend. On Tuesday’s class, we classified those app ideas into featured categories such as life planner, habit builder, food saver, etc. We discussed the pros and cons of each idea and voted for our favorite ones, which are “Mood Bubbles”, “Background Generator”, and “Decision Maker”.
After another serious discussion while taking usability, targeting group, feasibility, and the goal of COGS187A into consideration, we finally decided the winner to be the “Decision Maker” (functionality to be discussed in detail in our next post)!

To make our app practical, interactive, fun, and most importantly, human-centered, we optimized the original idea by adding characteristic features as such:

Our Team Logo
At the end of this class, we selected our favorite team logo through two round of voting.

The winner among those seven amazingly designed logos is:

We chose it not only because we love its simplistic design, but also because the light bulb represents our team spirit: inspirations, guidance, and positive energy❤
