Who we are, and how we got here.

The initial idea of COIN was sparked from one simple concept: People should be paid for their data.

Humans are creating data on the daily. More and more, we’re using platforms, apps, and programs designed to track our every move, and then return us curated and highly-customized content.

In many cases, this is great! We get suggested Netflix shows we immediately start binging, we get customized Spotify playlists with a single click, and Amazon shows us deals for products we just can’t refuse. In nearly every way, data collection (and the detailed analysis of that data) improves a user’s lifestyle, experience with products, and ease of living.

But what if you didn’t want another social media platform, streaming service, or e-commerce store? What if you simply wanted immediate rewards for that crucial data you were already sharing each day?

Enter COIN App.

We launched COIN in early 2019, mainly to the XYO Network users who were already in-the-know about data collection and its value. The app spread like wildfire. Within a few weeks, XYO followers were actively Geomining their location data! Every day, someone came to us with a new idea or feature for the app.

The first version of the app allowed users to “Geomine” their data for XYO virtual currency, which could be redeemed for “XYO Tokens”, the ERC-20 token that the XYO Network economy is built on. However, this meant every user had to learn or already understand cryptocurrencies, external wallets, and how blockchain worked if they wanted to properly manage the rewards they received upon withdrawal.

Soon, the team realized that in order to expand our user base and introduce new people to the concepts COIN was built on, we’d need to expand our reward system to include real-world and non-crypto rewards. The resulting feature was “COIN” the digital currency you earn inside the COIN App today! COIN itself is not a cryptocurrency or cryptotoken, but still can be easily redeemed for XYO, ETH, and BTC. On top of those rewards, we introduced gift cards and technological products (like Bluetooth speakers and headphones!).

Today, over 750,000 people have downloaded the COIN App. To say we’re excited about our future is an understatement. So far, we’ve been able to respond to customer feedback and build out new features and tools inside the COIN App. We’re still surprised daily by every custom COIN setup we see from around the globe! On top of all that, we’re seeing a huge community growth that believes in our core values as well. People should have control of their data, and get the choice for how they are paid for it.

If you’re reading this, and excited about the future of data mining, data ownership, and rewards for data, we encourage you to download the COIN App and see for yourself how much potential this space has.
