Where are the priciest apartments in the world and how much do they cost to rent in Bitcoin? In this article we check out 10 different locations from around the world that will put a dent in your wallet, but whose lavish style may be well worth the expense.

From lowest to highest, these cities are the most expensive to rent an apartment or other dwelling for one month. Just so you know, we did not include the very well-known top 10 costliest locations such as Paris, London, or San Francisco because we wanted to bring awareness to these lesser known places.

10. Luxembourg City, Luxembourg

  • The small country of Luxembourg starts off our list of expensive areas to rent. Finding rent accomodation is difficult in Luxembourg. If you want a luxury apartment near Luxembourg’s city center, monthly rent will come close to $2,303 or 0.30BTC. Alternatively, you could seek a more modest home and fork out around 0.14BTC for a one bedroom, unfurnished, 860 square foot apartment in the city center.
  • We found it interesting to learn that many of Luxembourg’s workers choose to live in the surrounding countries of Belgium, France, and Germany due to Luxembourg’s high cost of living.

  • Switzerland is one of the most expensive places in the world to live, which is probably why Basel is the first of three Swiss cities on our list. Most people in Basel rent rather than own property. Although the cost of living is high, average wages are proportionally high. Renting a two bedroom apartment downtown will cost around $2,900 or 0.38BTC.
  • Individual private healthcare is mandatory by law in Switzerland, so you will need to save some additional money to purchase coverage.

  • Doha has one one of the highest per capita incomes in the world which, for better or worse, is reflected in the cost of accomodation. At the same time, there is a staggering wealth gap in some areas of Doha, so rent prices vary depending on the location of the dwelling. The average monthly rent for a furnished two bedroom apartment in a desirable location in Doha, Qatar is around $3,049 or 0.40BTC. Of course, one way to save money would be to seek an unfurnished apartment.

7. Zurich, Switzerland

  • We just mentioned that renting a living space in Switzerland’s big cities can be fairly expensive. Like Basel, most residents in Zurich also rent instead of buying, so there is stiff competition for property. To rent an apartment in the heart of the city someone will need to shell out around $3,150 or 0.41BTC. The good news is that there are less expensive properties being constructed on the outskirts of Zurich in order to keep up with the high demand for living space.
  • You will be happy here, even if you’re broke. Over 10% of all jobs in the entire country are in Zurich which has been described by critics as the city with the best quality of life in the world.

Property is highly valued here as the Cayman Islands are considered among some of the most beautiful destinations in the world. Plus, there is limited room to expand the housing market due to the natural boundaries of the islands. Prices for accommodations vary depending on location and desirability, but you can expect a comfortable apartment, near the ocean, in Grand Cayman to cost $3,290 or 0.43BTC on average.

5. Geneva, Switzerland

  • Geneva is known to be the most expensive city in the already expensive country of Switzerland. A two-bedroom apartment will probably cost upwards of $3,348 or 0.44BTC. People often live outside of the city and utilize Switzerland’s excellent public transportation systems to travel from home to the big city. There are other ways to save when living in Geneva including taking advantage of discounts, special offers, and choosing carefully when and where to shop.
  • Situated near Lake Geneva, it offers several interesting cultural, historical and natural attractions while also being the center of banking, technology and tourism in the country.

4. New York City, New York, USA

The cost of rent in the vicinity of NYC is close to the entire monthly income of the average American worker. Due to the high expense, a large part of New York City’s workforce commutes to and from the city while living permanently in the suburbs.
  • Even the transit passes are pricey and can cost more than $115 a month or 0.015BTC!

3. Berkeley, California, USA

  • Living in in the Bay area is never cheap. Coupled with the University of California, Berkeley and the nearby draw of Silicon Valley, space in Berkeley is in especially high demand. A two bedroom apartment in an upscale neighborhood will cost somewhere near $4,186 or 0.55BTC to rent each month.
  • Berkeley is considered one of the best places to live in the US and residents enjoy luxuries like beaches, parks, wilderness areas, rock formations, and more.

2. Hong Kong, China

  • As one of the most densely populated cities in the world, Hong Kong, earned runner up on our list. You can expect a month’s worth of rent for a comfortable 900 square foot apartment to run you around $5,211 or 0.68BTC. However, there is a difference between living in HK with an expatriate lifestyle versus the standard local lifestyle. For example, you can embrace the local attitude and use public transportation instead of owning a car.
  • Hong Kong has more skyscrapers than any other city in the world; it actually has double the amount of tall buildings as New York City!

  • One of the most beautiful, affluent, and desirable islands in the world, Bermuda, has some of the least desirable costs of living. Bermuda law requires you to be married to a Bermudian citizen before you are able to own property. Plus, it is important to consider most everyday items are almost twice the price as other large countries due to Bermuda’s high import duty.
