Update: This Fork has been “Suspended”. The below no longer applies. Yay for all the no2x Supporters!

As some of you may or may not know, approximately mid-November after we hit block 494,784 the bitcoin blockchain will be forked. Yes, Again.

“BTC” will have a new chain created which we will call “S2X”.

While we try to remain neutral in most bitcoin politics, we consider S2X an unneeded, contentious change which is also an attempt to seize control of the coding efforts of the “Bitcoin Core” team. Therefore we do not support S2X or the agreement which spawned it, “The NYA”.

Stuff Technologies Inc. will continue to support the bitcoin core developers and are excited to see scaling solutions such as Segwit and Lightning become adopted by the masses. In the event that these fail to help the network, then we look forward to alternative solutions at that time including potential block size increases.

Why is S2X so dangerous?

The S2X hard fork is different than other hard forks we have seen recently because the S2X developers refuse to add “Replay Protection”. Replay protection is the code necessary to avoid transactions being duplicated on the second chain. This could potentially lead to a high number of users who lose funds on one chain after spending on the other.

Coincards.ca S2X Fork Timeline:

Since Coincards.ca is a major volume hub for bitcoin transactions in Canada, we have decided that during the fork/chain split we will be taking a short break to assess all of our systems and ensure that we are fully protected and our customers understand the risks of transacting unprotected coins.

We do hope the dust to be settled before November 24th as we have a special surprise coming for Black Friday.

More to come later ;)

CryptoAsylum S2X Fork Timeline:

CryptoAsylum will disable all bitcoin transactions 24 hours before the fork. We will continue to monitor the situation and will enable bitcoin payments once we feel it is safe to do so. Crypto Asylum will continue to accept Credit Cards as a form of payment during all forks.

Can I spend S2X coins?

We do not plan to support S2X coins at this time. We will consider S2X an Altcoin and should this altcoin become available through our partners such as shapeshift for checkout we will consider allowing it.

Final Thoughts

Please take the time to learn about the forks and how it may affect you. There are several meetups around Canada which will be discussing the impacts of these forks and we suggest making it out to one if you can. This is a very important time for bitcoin, and we the users must make a clear stance of what we need from the network.
