Online Tipping with Cryptocurrency.

Since Bitcoin’s inception, there have been numerous services that offer the ability to tip digital content creators on social media with cryptocurrency (R.I.P. ChangeTip and TipJar), but here is a look at the options that still exist today.

Tipping on Twitter

Currently, Tippin.me is likely the easiest way to send and earn Bitcoin tips on Twitter. It’s a browser extension compatible with Google Chrome and Firefox that uses the Lightning Network to send Bitcoin. With the extension enabled, a lightning symbol shows up next to the “like” and “retweet” buttons. It’s still in beta, but could potentially spread to other social media sites in the future.

Another option for Twitter tipping is CoinTip, which works through a dashboard that you access by creating a CoinTip account and depositing Bitcoin into your account. You can then tip Twitter users through a tweet that includes their Twitter handle, CoinTip’s Twitter handle, and the amount you wish to tip.

Tipping on Reddit

Reddit used to offer a solution for Bitcoin tipping through a bot, but the bot is no longer available and attempts to replicate that service have fallen short due to a lack of interest. While there doesn’t currently appear to be an available and active service for tipping with Bitcoin for Reddit, there is Tippr, which enables tipping with Bitcoin Cash (BCH). Tippr also works with Twitter.

Tipping with BAT

Brave, a decentralized blockchain internet browser, is working on extending its token tipping services beyond Twitter, YouTube, and Twitch, to include Reddit, GitHub, and Vimeo. Brave browser users who have opted into the Brave Rewards program can tip content creators with its native token, the Basic Attention Token (BAT). The Brave browser also allows you to tip websites to thank them for their content.
