We’re excited to open our next hackathon, which is focused on the Erasure Protocol. Erasure is a smart contract protocol that can power things like decentralized data marketplaces. It allows anyone on earth to upload predictions, stake them with cryptocurrency (providing skin in the game), build a verifiable track record, and earn money.

Erasure brings simple Web3 primitives to any website on the internet. The initial primitives available on Erasure are Recourse, Track-Record, and Payments. These can be used for building new types of applications like the Numerai Tournament (a data science tournament), Erasure Quant (a decentralized marketplace for stock market data) and ErasureBay (a decentralized information marketplace).

The team at Numerai, which introduced Erasure a few months ago, has an impressive history of shipping. Numerai has built an incredibly exciting crowd-sourced hedge fund and then introduced NMR, which has become one of the most widely used tokens on Ethereum. We’re excited to work with them.

The Erasure Hackathon

The focus of the hackathon is on improving developer tooling. We’re excited to see projects in three categories:

1. Making App Development Faster. Good packages such as a JS library or SDK can greatly accelerate app development by abstracting away the complexity.

2. Seamless Integrations. Ensuring applications are interoperable is crucial for Web3 products.

3. New Frontiers. We’re excited to see developers leverage Erasure to push the frontier of what’s possible.

The hackathon launched yesterday (Nov 6) and runs through Dec 10. There are $25,000 available in prizes.

We’re fortunate to have an incredible group of judges including Jill Carlson (Co-Founder at Open Money Initiative), Joel Monegro (Partner at Placeholder VC), and Fred Ehrsam (Co-Founder at Paradigm).
