ConsenSys, a developer of Ethereum applications and infrastructure, has concluded a $450 million investment round, valuing the New York City-based blockchain business at $7 billion.

The massive Series D investment, spearheaded by ParaFi Capital, more than doubles ConsenSys’ value from its November 2021 $200 million round. Existing investors such as Third Point and Marshall Wace were joined by a new group of investors, including Singapore’s Temasek, SoftBank Vision Fund 2, and Microsoft. (A number of celebrity investors, including rappers 21 Savage and Young Thug, were also engaged.)

The company’s new valuation coincides with MetaMask, its flagship Ethereum wallet and browser extension, reaching over 30 million monthly active users, and Infura, a widely used infrastructure tool created by ConsenSys, reaching approximately 430,000 developers, according to a press release issued on Tuesday.

ConsenSys’ physical growth plans, announced at the company’s most recent investment round, call for the company’s employment to rise from 700 to over 1,000 people by the end of 2022. (The company employed over 1,200 people in 2018 prior to a wave of layoffs.) The funds will also be used to expand MetaMask, which will undergo a big overhaul later this year.
