Most of the NFT projects you see today are created by men for other men. But in the sea of the Bored Ape Yacht Club, Crypto Punks and Invisible Friends comes a couple of strong-willed women ready to shake things up.

These queens of crypto are working to give a voice to female artists and creators to release their NFT collections for the women in the community.

Here are 5 women-led NFT projects that have blazed through the industry over the past 2 years and are working to demystify the crypto space for women:

1. World of Women

This is currently THE most popular women-led NFT project in the market. Created in July 2021 by artist and co-founder Yam Karkai, World of Women features a collection of 10,000 diverse and powerful female avatars.

The project’s vision is to:

  • Build an inclusive and diverse web3
  • Create new and equal opportunities for anyone to become owners, creators and collaborators for NFT projects
  • Educate and onboard the growing community of NFT artists, creators and developers

How did it get so popular?

Being the premier women-led NFT project at a time that many women were getting curious about the space definitely helped. The community had been waiting for a project that gave women a voice in the otherwise crypto-bro space.

The other reason World of Women gained so much fire so quickly was that their NFTs were purchased by a few well-known celebrities like Reese Witherspoon, Eva Longoria and Shonda Rhimes. Renown marketing genius and investor, Gary Vee, also bought 15 of his own World of Women NFTs, catapulting its awareness amongst his audience of predominantly web2 investors.

According to OpenSea, World of Women has a floor price of 3.3 ETH and has completed 71,500 ETH in trading volume at the time of writing.

2. Boss Beauties

Boss Beauties is the brainchild of Lisa Mayer, who has been educating and empowering women over the last 10 years through her charitable foundation My Social Canvas.

Debuted in September 2021, Boss Beauties includes 10,000 digital portraits of empowered women that were conceptualized by their own community of Gen Z change-makers. These women, as imagined by their community, represented who they wanted to see and be in the world.

“A woman can be everything she wants”

True to the Boss Beauties motto, the portraits display women in inspiring roles— from astronauts, moms, soldiers, pilots, etc.

Boss Beauties is on a mission to educate and empower the next generation of women by providing mentorship programs, internships and scholarships.

Famous female figures like actress Eva Longoria and entrepreneur Randi Zuckerberg have been strong advocates in the NFT space and have both purchased their own Boss Beauties, helping to make it mainstream.

According to OpenSea, Boss Beauties has a floor price of 0.39 ETH and has completed 15,600 ETH in trading volume at the time of writing.

3. 8SIAN

Nicole Yap, co-founder of 8SIAN, launched the NFT project in October 2021 after noticing a serious lack of representation of Asians and women in the industry.

8SIAN is a collection of 8,888 Asian women NFTs, each of them featuring a unique cultural background and story.

The number 8 in 8SIAN is symbolic and represents wealth, prosperity and success in Chinese. It is also a symbol of balance, which is why the very imbalance in representation of the existing NFT space is at the core of the 8SIAN NFT movement.

Becoming an 8SIAN collector includes significant influence on the community led fund to host contests and events and access to blockchain scholarship programs. But what’s most exciting in its roadmap are its plans to integrate its project into the Metaverse where NFT owners can use their 8SIAN virtual characters to interact.

According to OpenSea, 8SIAN has a floor price of 0.06 ETH and has completed 4,700 ETH in trading volume at the time of writing.

4. Crypto Chicks

Crypto Chicks made its debut in September 2021, featuring 10,000 illustrations of women with diverse backgrounds. The colorful, fun and fashionable attributes of Crypto Chicks NFTs were a huge hit as soon as they dropped and sold out on its first day.

Crypto Chicks was founded by Elissa Maercklein and Madeline Lieber with the vision of building a community that empowers women throughout their web3 journeys. The two women have spoken about how most emerging industries are heavily male-dominated but web3 presents a new opportunity for diversification.

According to OpenSea, Crypto Chicks has a floor price of 0.18 ETH and has completed 12,900 ETH in trading volume at the time of writing.

5. Women Rise

[Clockwise from top left]: Women Rise 9409, 9778, 8630, 4394, 2188, 3880. Image courtesy of Women Rise.

Women Rise consists of 10,000 unique and randomly generated NFT art pieces based on 453 hand-drawn traits of women done by Pakistani artist Maliha Abidi.

Each artwork represents women from around the world, celebrating their roles as activists, scientists, coders, artists and more, collectively rising to make the world a better place.

Women Rise seeks to invite more women into the community and contribute to the representation of women in the tech, blockchain and NFT space for the next generation of web3 gals.

The roadmap for the NFT project includes donations made to charitable organizations supporting gender equality, girls education and mental health in marginalized societies.

Women Rise is also one of the first NFT projects to commit to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), something web2 organizations have committed to adopting over the last few years.

According to OpenSea, Women Rise has a floor price of 0.07 ETH and has completed 6,000 ETH in trading volume at the time of writing.

What’s Next?

We’ve seen multiple women-led NFT collections come out into the space over the last 2 years — but this is only the beginning.

Some of these projects that I’ve mentioned have plans to release upcoming collections or to advance in the next stages of their roadmaps.
