Things you Need to Know About Zilliqa (ZIL)

Zilliqa (ZIL) is a layer 1 blockchain competing with Bitcoin and Ethereum. Zilliqa network uses Sharding mechanisms to enhance the scalability and decentralization of the network.

In this story, I am going to explain 8 things you better know about this project. For more info, you can also check the official documentation of the project here, and here.

#1 — Type of Nodes

There are different type of nodes in the Zilliqa blockchain:

  • DS (Directory Service) Nodes: are the nodes responsible for aggregating shard macroblocks and forming the transaction block. They are also in charge of creating the DS block at the beginning of every DS epoch. DS Committee will choose these nodes and they stay relatively stable during several epochs. DS Nodes receive their rewards in ZIL token.
  • Shard Nodes: are the nodes responsible for proposing and validating the transactions at the shard level. At each epoch, the DS committee assigns…
