Last year, high-profile DeFi projects like Uniswap, Curve, and 1inch released governance tokens with distribution schemes in the form of retroactive airdrops that heavily rewarded past users of the protocols.

The more users used these protocols and supported them in their early days, the more tokens they earned in the projects’ retroactive token airdrops.

This new DeFi distribution paradigm has led some Ethereum users to joke that they earned multiple “DeFi stimulus checks” in 2020. It has also understandably sparked a wave of speculation about which protocols might launch retroactive token distributions next.

This article will introduce several DeFi and Ethereum-based projects that do not currently have their own token and could also use a retroactive airdrop to their users to launch their own native cryptocurrency.

Of course, to get such eventual tokens, the following projects must actually be used. Otherwise, one would not qualify for a possible airdrop. Furthermore, it must also be clear that this is pure speculation. Of course, we currently do not know if such airdrops will ever happen. The goal is to identify promising protocols that do not yet have their own token and could benefit from potential future airdrops.

So let’s move on to our list of successful DeFi projects that have some likelihood of launching a token and retrospective airdrop in the future.
