The British Museum plans to publish NFT collections that reflect its collections and offer immersive new experiences in 3D. The British Museum will also create its own 3D space in The Sandbox.

The British Museum, one of the well-established museums of England, plans to create NFT collections with LaCollection, the license partner of the museum, as part of its partnership with Ethereum-based metaverse-oriented gaming startup The Sandbox.

The Sandbox COO and co-founder, Sebastien Borget, said in a statement that this collaboration is a great opportunity for The Sandbox players. Players from anywhere in the world will have access to the historical, artistic and cultural artifacts offered by the British Museum.

With this new step, the British Museum is preparing to explore innovative ways to share its collection and reach new target audiences.

The Sandbox collaboration is not the first step the British Museum has taken in the Web3 space. If you remember, the British Museum first stepped into the world of NFT with its Hokusai collection. More than 200 Hokusai NFT artifacts were put up for sale in collaboration with LaCollection and the British Museum. In this context, Hokusai’s original works were auctioned, while NFTs were offered for sale at fixed prices.

The British Museum’s recent NFT sale included 20 pencil and chalk drawings by the Venetian-born painter Giambattista Piranesi from the British Museum’s collection.

Last year, The Sandbox announced the creation of an in-game museum dedicated to the NFT profile picture project, World of Women. This museum is positioned as part of the platform’s five-year, $25 million initiative to create a WoW Foundation.

Finally, let us remind you that The Sandbox came to the fore with the sale of virtual land worth $1.66 million in December 2022, despite the crypto winter. These steps taken by the company in the cultural field can increase the diversity of content on the platform and increase the level of interaction.
