Billionaire and tech magician Elon Musk has bought 9.2 percent shares in Twitter, worth nearly $ 3 billion, according to a statement from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Following this announcement, the value of Twitter shares rose by more than 25 percent.

Musk has thus become one of the company’s largest shareholders and now owns four times as many shares as Twitter founder Jack Dorsey.

Dorsey’s share is 2.25 percent, reports Fena, citing Sky News.

Musk is one of the most popular Twitter users, with more than 80 million followers.

Charges of market manipulation

He often publishes details about his companies, which is why he has been accused of manipulating the market on several occasions, and several investigations have been launched against him.

Musk wrote on Twitter last week that he was “concerned about the de facto bias in the algorithm of the same platform, which has a great impact on public discourse”, and shared a poll urging his followers to vote on whether the algorithm should be open source.

A day later, he wrote in his status that “freedom of speech is key to a functioning democracy” and surveyed his followers on whether they thought “Twitter is rigorously adhering to that principle.”

After 70.4% of respondents said it was not, he asked followers, “Do we need a new platform?”

Musk bought the shares of Twitter even before these announcements, and the securities registration agency shows that the transaction took place on March 14, although the public found out about it three weeks later.
