Data is the new oil

Various types of data are sold, transferred, and stored, millions of times a day. If you haven’t heard of the term “data is the new oil” already, than you will soon. No need to get into the various types of data and all of the companies interested in those types, but to name a couple:

Foursquare Labs Inc., commonly known as Foursquare, is a geolocation technology company and data cloud platform based in the United States.

“• Big brands are going to Foursquare to access your clients’ business information.

Uber, Apple, Twitter, Snapchat, and many more Foursquare partners and developers purchase Foursquare’s data. “

These companies need to view consumer analytics while they sit at their desk and continue to make money, build businesses out more, and focus on what they want. Remember, these are the business conglomerates that can move a finger and have someone bring them a 5 star meal. No need to ask people about their data and daily routines, they can just buy it from a company like Foursquare. https://foursquare.com

Snowflake Inc. • https://www.snowflake.com/en/

Its platform offers Data Cloud, which enables customers to consolidate data into a single source of truth to drive meaningful business insights, build data-driven applications, and share data and data products. The company was formerly known as Snowflake Computing, Inc. and changed its name to Snowflake Inc.

These are both companies that buy data!

Healthcare data

The same has been happening for years, but with healthcare data. For all different reasons. Data engineers and data scientists are a few of the professions that have started to look into how important those analytics are. Data collection is important as it allows providers to make more informed decisions about a patient’s care. With applications designed for sharing patient data across channels, every care provider has all the information available to treat their patients. Which ultimately leads to: improvements to patient care, faster and more accurate diagnoses, preventive measures, more personalized treatment and more informed decision-making on the consumer side of the exchange. One of those applications I’ve been looking into is JennyCo. A blockchain based company getting ready to make waves in the healthcare industry. Not only will JennyCo be releasing their app soon, but they’re also preparing for TGE (token generation event) for their native token $JCO , which will be utilized on the app as well. Not only will consumers be interested in this, but businesses as well. They’ll need to hold $JCO in exchange for the right to mine user data. One other thing that caught my eye with JennyCo was how upfront the founders were with the fact that companies are out there basically hijacking your health data. Why not benefit from it? Not only is the JennyCo team doing what they need to do to ensure the regulators are off their back in terms of being a “security” but they’re also HIPAA compliant and GDPR complaint as well. At its core, GDPR Compliance means an organization that falls within the scope of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) meets the requirements for properly handling personal data as defined in the law. So if you’re into crypto, and teams that are serious about building the tech they’re building, check out JennyCo and the white paper listed above for them. https://jennyco.com

More reasons I believe healthcare data is important

  • If the data is not shared between doctors, researchers, and hospitals, it slows down the development and can cost lives.
  • Provides the incentive (with JennyCo and their app) for users to keep up-to-date EHR’s or electronic health records, while also allowing them to monetize those statistics. Which will ultimately lead to better care when they choose to go to the doctor or get health advice from a professional.
  • With extensive research, the numbers gathered from different health studies could realistically change peoples lives. Whether it be from a dietary supplement change someone might need to make themselves go in the right direction in life, or a company looking to gather the data to further their data science studies.
