How to become a blockchain developer
Here is a short roadmap
The first thing you have to understand is that you will not learn it overnight.
There are a few things you may think about if you want to get into this space: money and opportunities to work online. As this space is a new one, there is not yet clear information for becoming a web3 developer. I have prepared some useful resources for you, so you would be able to become a blockchain developer.
Software engineering basics
Blockchain developers are always good software engineers. There are a few ways you can become a software developer.
First, you have to learn html/css/js basics

It’s your choice to buy it or not. It was a part of my journey, so I mentioned it here.
The course instructor’s name is Angela Yu, and she always motivated me to learn Web Development at my own pace.
Thanks to her.
I used to watch this course, 2 hours per day because I like it. At that time, I was not practising it on my laptop like many of you.
After you learned software engineering basics, the next step is to learn what is a blockchain. You will never be able to become a good blockchain developer, without knowing what is blockchain.
Here’s a short Udemy course that delves deeper into the fundamentals of the blockchain:
Dapps are built on top of the blockchain
Here are the main technologies web3 developers use:
- Backend: Rust and Solana or Solidity and Ethereum
Ethereum is the most popular blockchain for creating smart contracts in 2022. Solidity is the language used to develop smart contracts with it. Here is an official documentation

Smart Contracts development
Just understanding the concept of smart contracts isn’t enough, you should also be able to develop them. Here’s where Solidity comes in. Solidity is a high level, object(ish) oriented programming language which is made specifically to build smart contracts easily.

Connect Your Smart Contract With Your Frontend
Now that you know how to develop smart contracts, you need to actually use them. There are two main libraries to do this — web3.js or ethers.js. Let’s see why ethers.js is better than web3:
- Much smaller size
- Less buggy
- Better documentation
- More popular
- Easier for begginers
- Extra Features
Here’s a great tutorial on ethers.js:
I suggest learning web3.js too, since some codebases may use it. Here’s a crash course on web3.js:
