Kogarashi: Advanced Features Blockchain with Simple Usage and High Performance

Integration of cryptography best practice provides users with convenient functionalities that are simple to use and cheap gas cost. Kogarashi resolves blockchain missing pieces of privacy, scaling, and off-chain oracle with simple architecture.

Vision

Kogarashi’s goal is to resolve blockchain missing pieces and achieve economic inclusion. Kogarashi grants public blockchain access to off-chain data trustlessly and, high-performance and cheap gas-cost transactions even if it depends on advanced cryptography functionalities. By unlocking unlimited possibilities, blockchain technology is merged into everyday life digital infrastructure like the current Internet.

Background

Blockchain technology was successful in realizing financial systems with anonymous individual groups. In 2009, Bitcoin achieved possession and remitted assets on a decentralized ledger, and in 2015, Ethereum achieved various types of finance applications. When the SVB collapse occurred, cryptocurrency became a safe haven from the traditional financial system.

However, we still haven’t seen the killer application that becomes infrastructure in our daily life. Blockchain is only used among certain industry and people because of its limited use case and usability. Thus, Kogarashi was founded to introduce light processes advanced functionalities, and trustless off-chain Oracle to the blockchain by integrating cryptography best practices.

Architecture

Kogarashi has 3-layer: runtime, protocol, and client. Blockchain consensus layer, off-chain layer, and application layer respectively.

Runtime

The runtime consists of storage and function. Storage is designed for efficient privacy and scaling functionalities. Encrypted storage hides users’ information by default and performs privacy-preserving transactions with a privacy transfer function. The availability storage holds essential data for the scaling solutions and their data availability. It’s terminated after some period. This storage ensures users’ safety and reduces storage gas costs drastically.

Protocol

The protocol consists of an On-Chain function and an Off-Chain party. Each time there is an interaction with the Off-Chain party, it undergoes verification by runtime functions. Therefore the Off-Chain protocol inherits the security of the Main Chain. The off-chain party processes are verified through zero-knowledge proof, Shamir secret sharing, Garbled circuit, and TEE. The protocol only depends on cryptographic assumptions help to ensure the security instead of heuristic and optimistic assumptions.

Client

The client is an end user’s application. The application is designed for usability especially simple to use and cheap gas cost. Worthy of special mention features are the following.

  1. Users do not have to care about secret keys and wallet
  2. Simple to use and light even using complex functionalities
  3. Key management supports fraud and erroneous remittance prevention

Firstly, the user’s account is implemented using error-correcting code technology. Thus, they don’t have to back up their wallet seed and manage private keys.

Secondly, users don’t need complex setups for privacy and scaling functionalities we need previously. Runtime is designed for privacy and scaling hence it achieves seamless and easy usage for complex functionalities. Users don’t have to create extra wallets nor migrate assets to relayer.

Thirdly, users can set protection setting optionally. Before sending any transactions, a trusted party or acquaintance double-checks them to ensure accuracy. The setting is completed for only one transaction.

Use Case

Kogarashi is an advanced features ledger that unlocks the following innovative use cases.

Legal Binding NFT

Trustless Oracle function can access the contract on the Internet and prove whether it exists. Embedding contract existence proof to NFT issue sequence, we can combine Web2.0 contract with NFT. We can deal with new types of rights management, for example, a lease contract and copyright royalty contract thanks to legally binding NFT.

IoT-based Decentralized Sharing Economy

IoT Verification can fetch the IoT device information through TEE and remote attestation scheme. For example, introducing this scheme to bicycle sharing service, bicycle device sends information about distance users to use to the smart contract. Smart contracts calculate measured rates for service and complete payment automatically. Replacing application infrastructure with blockchain, not only does sharing service provider don’t need to pay the fee for payment service or cloud service to maintain the system but also provide service globally and autonomously.

Advanced Defi

Trustless Oracle function can access credit records and government databases. Combining Defi contracts with trusted party information through trustless oracle and anonymous credentials enables lending service more than collateral and legal compliance advanced Defi without compromising anonymity and decentralization.

Decentralized Derivative

Trustless Oracle function can access exchange rates, sports games’ results, and this type of information on the Internet. Dapp can deal with Internet data as a derivative and provide decentralized sports betting and futures trading without the trust of providers.

Summary

Blockchain service is both extremes. Completely decentralized or trust centralized party without reason. Decentralized has transparency and centralized has convenience. Our challenge is to embed centralized parties into a decentralized system. Cryptography can ensure the system’s transparency and validity. Users can verify the system because of transparency, decide what kind of party they trust, and use a convenient decentralized system. We bring “Don’t Trust. Verify.” to a decentralized centralized merged system.
