Mail chimp has joined the gangs with facebook and Google to block cryptocurrency related accounts. Facebook decision to block cryptocurrency related ads was understandable because Facebook is a closed platform that can decide to accept whatever content that pleases them. This means that each user uses facebook won’t see blockchain related ads.

Google decision to ban blockchain related ads was a serious issue because millions of websites advertise through AdX and Adsense. Google’s decision was a punishment to millions of publishers, researchers, and entrepreneurs that love the blockchain technology.

Mail chimp posted this on their twitter feed on Thursday.

“The promotion and exchange of cryptocurrencies is frequently associated with phishing, scams, fraud and misleading business practices at the moment. It’s important to note that this policy does not prevent the discussion of related topics in messages sent trough our platform. For example, Publications and Journalist may send cryptocurrency-related information as long as they are not involved in the sale, production, exchange, or marketing of cryptocurrencies.”

This means that Mail chimp has decided to censor what companies can share with their customers. “This is an unfair decision” — They are a private company and not a government company.

Due to curiosity, several companies have contacted mail chimp to ask about the metrics that they will use to distinguish between the companies involved in blockchains and others involved in news-related discussions. People claim that it is only humans that can perfectly distinguish those accounts.

Right now, mailchimp has failed to respond any inquiries. Mailchimp may be following facebook steps that banned all blockchain related ads earlier this year. They claim that the anonymity nature of digital currency is a treat. The news is already affecting bitcoin price. Bitcoin is currently trading below the $7,000 mark.

Mail chimp might be the leader in the email space due to their business presence. They may also be great at deliverability but other email clients can also reach out to the same users.

Each time a company decides to block any content about cryptocurrency or people associated with it, there will be discussions about it being considered censorship. People will always argue the fact that they are private business.

We’ve seen other sites like youtube, twitter, Reedit, Google, Facebook banning contents from other platform. Mailchimp news is a sad one. They suddenly decided to ban mailing list that focuses on a topic that is not an outright scam.

Their AUP policy also discriminates against “Credit Repair Services” and “Work from home” mails for the same reasons. It’s not really worth it to distinguish the services that aren’t scams when many of them only pay a few bucks per month.

Mail chimp will end with blacklisting problems and far bigger deliverability if all the Cryptocurrency people move to a smaller email service with a friendly policy. This is however, game over for them.

The ideal alternative to mail chimp will have the following components:

Transactional components (Ability to integrate with other providers)

Mail chimp has become unreliable because they can decide for some reasons that your manually created campaigns are a scam. They block peoples account without giving any warning. They block everything including the API used in sending emails. Mail chimp has joined the gang of companies that treats you as if they are doing you a favor even though you are a paying consumer.
