OpenAI is working on a new AI model to replace GPT-4
Chatbots, digital assistants, search engines and image generators will be able to benefit from this new model.
OpenAI announced that it has started training a new flagship artificial intelligence model to replace the GPT-4 model. Let us remind you that the GPT-4 model supports ChatGPT, the company’s popular online chatbot.
According to the information shared, OpenAI, which is trying to develop artificial general intelligence (AGI), expects the new model to bring “the next level of capability”. At this point, it is possible to define artificial general intelligence as a machine that can do everything the human brain can do. The new model will be positioned as an engine for artificial intelligence products. Thus, chatbots, digital assistants like Siri, search engines and image generators will benefit from this new model.
The training process of artificial intelligence models may take months or even years, depending on the situation. Once training is complete, AI companies often work for several more months to test the technology and fine-tune it for public use. In this sense, it is currently difficult to predict when the model will meet users. However, the company recently managed to attract attention by announcing the GPT-4o model.
GPT-4o, OpenAI’s new model that can read people’s emotions from facial expressions, not only translates simultaneously but also solves math problems like a tutor over video. ChatGPT’s mobile app revenue increased after the GPT-4o launch. The app’s total revenue rose to $900,000, almost doubling its average of $491,000.
Safety and Security Committee
OpenAI also announced the formation of a new Safety and Security Committee to explore how it should address the risks posed by the new model and future technologies:
“While we are proud to build and release models that are industry-leading on both capabilities and safety, we welcome a robust debate at this important moment,”
Chief scientist Ilya Sutskever, one of the co-founders of OpenAI, who frequently voiced his concerns about artificial intelligence, announced that he had officially left the company. Jan Leike, who led the Superalignment team that Sutskever founded to direct and control more powerful AI, has also resigned from OpenAI and joined rival AI startup Anthropic. This raised a question mark in many people about the security of OpenAI’s productions. On the other hand, considering that Ilya Sutskever was behind Sam Altman’s departure, this news is not surprising. Ilya Sutskever, whom Elon Musk described as “linchpin for OpenAI being successful”, will be replaced by John Schulman, another OpenAI co-founder who stood by Altman during last year’s failed board coup. The new security committee will oversee Dr. Schulman’s research and offer guidance on how the company should address technological risks.
