Stellar and Ripple have similar blockchains, both facilitate cross-border international transfers, and were founded by the same individual, Jed McCaleb. Because of this, many people end up comparing the two.

However, there are some key differences you should be aware of. One of the most obvious differences between the two is that they have different target markets. Ripple is mostly directed towards banks. Meanwhile, Stellar is focusing on individuals, particularly people from less-developed countries, giving unbanked people an opportunity to interact with the market at a global level. Because of that, Stellar likes to say it is a platform that helps people rather than a platform that wants to make a profit.

Another key difference is that Stellar is much smaller compared to Ripple. Ripple is a very large organization and has a lot more capital raised. This is because banks are a very large market and they can bring a lot of money.

In the end, they are two separate platforms with separate goals, among other things.
