First of all, it’s misspelled, not that I ever liked the silent “gh” in many English words, which are the daylight savings time of useless letters. We, as a community, embrace the aggravation of a task that has no positive aspect because we’re part of a system that’s too big and too convoluted to change.

Welcome to the world of Whitepapers and Litepapers.

If you’re a business trying to harness interest, investors or solidify your goals; a whitepaper is an essay version of a business plan and a litepaper is the short-story version of a whitepaper.

If you want your audience to know what you’re doing and where you intend to go, you can bet they don’t want to study your 15 page (minimum) business plan. After all, a business plan should be as accurate as possible to real resources and achievable goals. A Litepaper is more about creative writing, in fact, I will wildly speculate that majority of whitepapers and litepapers are outsourced to writers who have to google technical details in order to sound legitimate. Business is too important to be left to the CEOs.

Whitepapers are big game in the world of blockchain, ever since Bitcoin released a whitepaper along with the revolutionary blockchain technology back in 2009, it’s a requirement. If you don’t have one ready by the time you start marketing, be prepared to get hassled, made fun of and get called a “Rug.” For the record, Lunifty needs no investors nor is it based in blockchain. Lunifty has STUFF on the blockchain, like how having stuff in a storage locker doesn’t mean you live in a storage locker.

Does a litepaper protect you, as an investor? Or is it a coddling blanket to help you feel better about your impulse investment in the prospect of a new game, metaverse, NFT set, energy drink or porn platform? Having a litepaper only means the company cared enough to write a litepaper, but you could write anything you want. It’s the business equivalent of an emphatic pitch over beers.

You could promise to save the world elephant population through geotagging and blockchain satellites combined with token rewards for killing poachers.

A Litepaper could detail a process by which to sequence and NFT your own genetic code to prevent companies like 23andMe from raking in all the profits from drugs engineered with your precious life essence.

An idea could rake in millions in investments through a market generation event or initial coin offering after tens of thousands in start up costs is drained into marketing because millions>thousands. Projects could string along investors for months until the inevitable moment when all the liquidity, the backing money, is drained and the anonymous team behind the rug-pull finds another project to hype. Did the litepaper stop any of that?

Does a GPS protect you from a car crash?

Using a GPS is better than not knowing where you’re going. A GPS helps you stay on track but does not prevent you from driving like an idiot, keep the road free of obstruction or maintain the sobriety of other drivers.

When someone asks me where I’m going I can screenshot and send them my map. I don’t need to follow it, I don’t even have to go where I say I’m going, I could veer off the road, change cars, burn off my fingerprints and start a new life in a bunker, but, I probably won’t. I’ll probably try my best to go exactly where I say I’m going and, because I shared my route, I’m accountable to my friends to follow though and my friends feel obligated to make sure I don’t end up lost.

A litepaper gives your team and audience something to follow or scrutinize, a basic rundown of a plan that could change as environmental and financial pressures or windfalls open up new paths and opportunities. A well written litepaper is a marketing tool to draw in investors and help determine if you go up or if you stay down. It’s a tool for communicating with the rest of the business world what you’re doing and how you intend to get there.

The whole point of a business is lost if you keep it a secret.
