After almost 6 months of busy and exciting development, we are happy to announce that we will launch the world 1st ONE character TLD — “.B” on NBdomain protocol.
Frankly speaking, we have struggled between “ .bsv “ and “ .b ”. I admit the first choice was “.bsv ”, which may be more welcome by the BSV community. But finally, we decided to choose “ .b ” for the following reasons:
- At NBdomain, our goal is to rebuild the internet, not only for the BSV community but for anyone in the world. “ .bsv ” may feel comfortable to BSV fans, but feel strange to people know nothing about BSV.
- “ .b ” is just one character, much easier to remember and use.
- “ b” can stand for “ bitcoin ”, “ blockchain ” or “ big ”, “ bright ”, the possibility is endless.
NBdomain does not only has the shortest TLD but also has some exciting features:
- It’s really owned by the users. Once the domain is registered, it’s permanent. Not one can revoke it, even us.
- It’s designed to work beyond traditional domains. With the traditional domain, the domain and subdomain are mainly resolved to IP addresses. With NBdomain, it can be resolved to any content on the blockchain. It will result in many more use cases. For example:
- * It can be used to receive payment from others.
- * It can be used as a login ID to login to other apps.
- * It can also be used to built on-chain websites.
- The protocol is public. Any developer can permissionless add new features to NBdomain.
During the 6 months, we have faced a lot of unknown issues and created different solutions. It includes but not limited to:
- A new payment protocol — Open Payment Protocol, supported by Maxthon VBox, Volt wallet, Dot wallet, and more…
- A open-source JS library — OPay, for app developers to easily send all kinds of bitcoin transactions.
- A open-source JS library — NBLib, for app developers to utilize all NBdomain features.
We will cover all these topics in detail in a separate article.
Although the final launch date is not decided yet, I am pretty sure it will be near.
We will start the Sunrise registration period first, which will help trademark owners to pre-register their domains. It begins at 1 OCT. If you are a trademark owner, please come to nbdomain.com to submit the application.
