The World is Ending
The World is Being Born
Everyone overlooks the most important lesson from the story of Prometheus and his heroic act for humanity. There was the act itself of stealing fire and gifting it to humanity, that was a big deal, sure. But the far bigger deal was the information generated by the act. Not only was fire now in the possession of humans, so too was the knowledge that it was possible to steal from the gods, thanks to information.
Bitcoin is not fire. It is an earthquake, for sure, with a splash of tsunami, maybe, but it’s not as important to humanity as fire itself.
But do you know what is as important to humanity as fire itself? The information bitcoin has generated. Specifically, the information bitcoin has generated has revealed money to be a mirage, humanity’s current and most pervasive fever dream.
Here is the short history of money: it always changes.
For as long as humans have been alive, we have projected “value” into items. Please realize, beyond air, water, shelter, food, nothing is inherently valuable to humans. Value is a projection from our minds outward. Jump ahead to the official decoupling of gold and one particular form of imaginary value, the specific currency called “USD”, and you have arrived at the first crack in the illusion. USD being officially “backed” by nothing caused the hypnosis to begin to wear off, but only slightly. Decades would pass, where obsession with money strengthened society’s hypnotic obsession with money. Money might consume our minds. Then came bitcoin.
The hypnosis will wear off soon. Like waking up, it might happen slowly and then all at once. This concerns me. For society is not prepared to handle the fallout of this particular spell being broken. Money and power are currently bound to the same individuals. Any threat to money will cause these individuals to use the only other resource they have, power, to try to restore the money they have come to believe in more than existence (or God) itself.
