For the love of the writing, let’s list few more tricks and tips which will help you to make your articles better. If you haven’t read the previous article, I recommend reading that also.

Table of content

Use anchor ⚓️

You can use anchoring in your article. By using it you can pinpoint a location in an article or provide a table on content in an article. Read this article “Medium Anchor: a must-have Chrome Extension for bloggers” written by Cadu de Castro Alves.

Linking others on medium 🔗

Did you notice how I linked Cadu de Castro Alves to give him attribute? This is the correct way if you want someone’s attention on your blog as he’ll get a notification once you’ll mention them in this way. Use medium username (for example mine is “@gaurav.agrawal”) and then press enter to mention someone in your blog post, It’s just like Twitter.

Highlighting important parts ✍️

As you can see above I have highlighted some lines to attract your attention. Use it for highlighting the most important paragraphs in your post. Just double click on the selected text and you’ll see a popup. Click on the pen like symbol and text will be highlighted.

Using Bold 🔩

You can also use bold style to mention few important sentence or words in your paragraph example 👆.

Use backup links 🔙

This is standard practice, whenever you mentioning something (an event, tech, news etc..) use source links to back them up. Show your research by linking back to sources and stats(if mentioned).

Proper image attribution 👐

This is something we miss every time. Giving attribution to your source is one of the most important things, So always add image source when you are using images from the Internet. A quick tip, you can use unsplash to get free images.

Use emojis 😃

Use emojis, You can just type : (colon) follow by emoji name like (“:clap”, go ahead and type it on comment) to summon emojis on your blog or you can copy paste them from this blog post “Emojis on Medium” written by Tim Boucher.

Adding links on the Image 📷

Do you know that you can add a link on image also, just click on the image so it has a green border, and press Command+K on Mac, Control+K on PC.

Uploading gif directly 💃

This is something writers miss easily while adding a gif on medium please download them and upload them directly. You tell me which one you like, this one ❔

That's really me when I was a child, this story for some other day. gif source

Listing or Bullet Points 🔫

You can start a bullet list by typing a dash or asterisk. Then, just start typing your first item. Once you hit Enter, the list will be reformatted for you automatically. To start a numbered list, type “1.” and your first item.

Leave a “TODO” for yourself 👊

Write “TK” anywhere in your story as a placeholder and reminder to yourself to finish something later. Medium will warn you if you have any TKs left before you hit Publish.
