The digital world is expanding at an unthinkable rate. Virtual reality, or VR, is one of these amazing experiences that is propelling our viewing experience to new heights. Hundreds of firms are working to make the metaverse a reality all across the world. It is undeniably one of those things that will take a significant amount of time and work to perfect and reach the public, but with recent technological breakthroughs, it is no longer a dream. The metaverse is the internet’s future, a shared 3D virtual realm in which users can dwell indefinitely. Many fashion brands included NFTs and digital clothing into their designs as fashion month came to a close in October.

Here are five brands that have entered the metaverse through the digital door.

D&G

D&G collection was the first time a major luxury fashion house embraced NFTs. The Genesis Collection, or Collezione Genesi, was the company’s first collection to feature non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that could be purchased and exchanged online. When the auction ended at the end of September, it fetched around $5.65 million. The event was held by UNXD, a luxury marketplace that runs on the Polygon platform, which makes it easier to develop and link blockchains.

Rebecca Minkoff

Rebecca Minkoff collaborated on 400 digital clothing with The Dematerialised and Yahoo. They were auctioned off and sold out in 10 minutes on OpenSea, a peer-to-peer marketplace. Yahoo collaborated with the firm to produce the NFT exhibition, which includes 10 images of models wearing the brand’s ensembles and five digital garments. Rebecca Minkoff is noted for her work with alternative platforms such as Clubhouse and Only Fans, as well as being a digital experimenter.

Balenciaga

The Balenciaga x Fortnite collaboration was a definite foray into the immersive game that is Fortnite, rather than an NFT collection. There, online networks, and digital clothing are presented as limited-edition drops, increasing the value of highly sought-after items.

Charli Cohen

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Pokemon, apparel line Charli Cohen collaborated with Selfridges, a British high-end department store, to create a digital shopping experience. The immersive digital shopping experience could be accessed by a phone or computer, and an in-store pop-up allowed customers to utilise augmented reality to move about the store and search for rewards. The “Electric City” and Kaleidodrip collections, created by Yahoo Ryot Lab, are based on the same world as the current Pokemon film.

Clinique

Clinique recently debuted its first NFT with a social media competition, in which contestants could win one of three NFTs inspired by the brand’s most renowned products, Black Honey and Moisture Surge. The campaign is unusual in that it focuses on existing consumers of the brand, bringing them into the digital realm.
