What is Walt’s Vault?

Walt’s Vault is an NFT project featuring art that pays homage to Walt Disney’s animations of the 1930s.

Twitter

It was founded with the goal of using blockchain to create new forms of storytelling while paying homage to tradition. The website states that world-class creators have been assembled for this purpose.

■NFT Information

  • Number of pieces: 6,888
  • Date: May 3, 2023
  • Price: 0.0628 ETH

One day after the mint, TVL has surpassed 100 ETH and the floor price has risen slightly; it was also ranked #3 in OpenSea’s global trend rankings.

■Team

The team is anonymous and the founder is called “Cohl”. His detailed background is unknown, but here is an excerpt from his website.

He was born with a hearing impairment and has been into storytelling and animation since childhood, influenced by his uncle who works for Disney. Also, the Internet has been his playground and he has been exploring new art forms utilizing the Internet.

From there, he released “Walt’s Vault” as a new art form.

■Prospects

Although they have not released a specific roadmap, their vision is to explore new forms of art, art and animation for a new era through the power of storytelling and animation.

The NFT project has entered the era of real names!

Here are my thoughts on the research I did.

I usually ego-search on Twitter to see reactions to the project when I do research, and I found a few critical comments about the project here and there.

I can summarize them in four main categories.

  • The team is anonymous and you don’t know who they are
  • The community is not well established (it seems like they don’t put a lot of effort into it)
  • The roadmap is not very clear
  • Is it okay to use Walt’s name and Disney-like animation without permission?

I don’t think this is the fault of Walt’s Vault, but rather a situation where there is so little to judge that we have no choice but to be wary.

In the NFT industry, anonymous founders over-promote and sell NFTs. There are many projects that do not do much activity after they sell out, and the floor price plummets, leaving only the founders to make money.

Originally, the NFT industry was an anonymous world that existed apart from real-world careers and relationships, but with the proliferation of fraudulent projects, credit judgment of founders and teams is now based on real-world careers and relationships.

While I think this is an unavoidable part of the process, since we can only judge what kind of people we are in the past based on our value judgments, the current winners in the Web 2.0 industry will continue to be trusted in the web3 industry based on those judging criteria.

Of course, I don’t think the current trust necessarily needs to be reset, but since this is a new industry, I hope that new evaluation criteria will permeate the industry. Perhaps that is the area of DID/VCs or something like that, but currently there are too few VCs distributing them to be judged by that alone. If it becomes more common in a few years, we may really be able to make credit decisions based on anonymity alone.

Personally, I like the animation of “Walt’s Vault” which reminds me of the old Disney, so I was very excited about the creativity.

I will continue to follow the future of this project as there is still too little information to tell.

That’s all for now, if you found the research interesting or informative, please feel free to like, comment, and share on social networking sites. Thank you for reading!
