What does it mean to be “woke” politically? This is a question that has been asked by many people in the past few years, and it’s one that deserves an answer.

Simply put, being woke politically means being aware of social injustice and racial inequality. It means having a keen understanding of the issues facing marginalized communities and advocating for change. It means recognizing the systemic racism that exists in our society and working to dismantle it.

At its core, being woke is about taking action. It’s about speaking up when you see something wrong and standing up for what’s right. It’s about educating yourself on the issues so you can become an ally to those who are affected by them. It’s about using your voice to make a difference in your community and beyond.

Being woke isn’t just about politics either; it’s also about culture. It’s about understanding how different cultures interact with each other and learning to appreciate their differences while still celebrating their similarities. Being woke means acknowledging privilege and using it to help others who don’t have access to the same opportunities as you do.

One last thing to add.. A similar philosophy was introduced in the original Star Trek series. Gene Roddenberry was a visionary with how a culture could evolve to it’s higher form. Through the Vulcan culture, Roddenberry introduced the concept of IDIC — “Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations” celebrating that beauty, growth, and progress — all result from the union of the unlike. Negatives though such as hatred, bigotry, and discrimination, anything that can be seen as making someone “lesser” — has no place in this philosophy. Beyond “tolerance”, it’s acceptance and celebration. Our differences ensure the sum of the whole out-performs the sum of the parts.

In short, being woke is all about making sure everyone has an equal chance at success no matter their background or identity. We all have a responsibility to use our voices for good, and being woke is one way we can do that.
