When I say Eletre, what comes to mind?
Lotus recently unveiled their new 100% electric hyper-SUV, the Lotus Eletre.
As far as SUVs goes, it is quite a beauty and being a late-comer to the SUV space, it does have the luxury of learning from its predecessors.
But wait, what does Electre mean?
It means “coming to life” in … wait for it, Hungarian.
I am amazed at how they find the right word to suit their needs and still manage to sound cool.
Give the person who thought of it a raise.
Here’s a look at some of the cars Lotus has named over the years:
They planned strategically for all Lotus models to start with an “E”.
Quaint, subtle but a powerful stroke of genius weaved into the company’s legacy.
Branding is everything in the high-end market because your customers are savvy and aware of it.
The Electre will have north of 600HP and can go 350+ miles on a full charge.
It is a pure 100% electric SUV and not a hybrid.
“Eletre joins exclusive ‘The Two-Second Club’ — capable of 0–100km/h (0–62mph) in less than three seconds”
Why is Lotus making an SUV so interesting?
Lotus was all about lightweight, nimble, true blue driving experience.
Most of its lineup were made up of sporty 2-seater rockets that weigh no more than a feather.
This Electre will weigh more than 2.2 tons.
The lightweight sports car Lotus Elise is barely 932 kg in comparison.
It will be the first Lotus in the company’s 74-year history to have four doors.
Talk about legacy and how difficult and intimidating a move it must have been to convince the board.
Oh how times have changed.
Even Lotus moved on to SUVs.
The inevitability of adapting to the times, or be like the dinosaurs when the asteroid came.
To be fair, the dinosaurs didn’t have much of a choice or chance against that asteroid.
Like Ironman in the Infinity War.
Like the Boston Red Sox and how they embraced Bill James and the mathematics that changed baseball forever.
Like how it is now 2022 and Lamborghini and Ferrari, two of the most luxurious and well-known supercar brands that has their own SUVs too.
Like how the banks and powerful nations are starting to embrace BTC slowly but surely.
Adapt or die.
It took them some time, but if Lotus can do it, so can you.
Whether personally or as a startup or a corporate, never settle.
Constantly look out for new opportunities and listen to your users.
I have a feeling if Lotus manage to squeeze this miracle out of concept stage and into actual production and market it well, it will sell like hot cakes.
Does the name of the car matter?
