Why Does Solana Drop 75% Of User Transactions?

Solana is currently facing another problem. Up to 75% of user transactions are dropped. Users try to resubmit a transaction up to 100 times in a row before giving up. However, some may succeed sooner. I will explain why Solana is facing these problems.

Why is Solana overwhelmed with spam transactions?

There are two primary reasons why Solana may drop 75% of user transactions:

  • Transactions that are too inexpensive can lead to the network being easily overwhelmed with valid transactions, such as those attempting arbitrage. Both users and bots typically pay between $0.001 and $0.005 per transaction.
  • Solana aims to process all submitted transactions as swiftly as possible, which can result in validators being overwhelmed with transactions.

Solana’s fee structure consists of two parts: a base fee and a priority fee. The base fee is a fixed charge per transaction. Currently, the base fee is set to 0.000005 SOL per signature. The priority fee is an optional additional fee that users can pay to increase the likelihood of their transaction being included in a block. This is particularly useful for time-sensitive transactions.
