Brandon Mullins, a sophomore at Coker College, has some exemplary advice for his fellow students, “Don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone. You don’t get the full Coker experience if you don’t get involved.”

Mullins is very involved and is making the most of his time on Coker’s campus. In addition to participating in the track and field and cross country programs, he is a resident assistant for the RTC residence hall and a project leader for ENACTUS.

As an ENACTUS project leader, Mullins works on the Rent-A-Fridge project, which rents refurbished refrigerators to students. The money collected from the program is used to fund other projects such as Kids Can, a project coordinated with Carolina Kids, which provides weekend food bags to less fortunate children. Because the food currently supplied, which is typically non-perishable canned and boxed foods, doesn’t offer much nutritional value, Mullins is working with ENACTUS to provide more nutritional foods to students in need.

Mullins is passionate about how Coker is preparing him for the future by offering valuable opportunities. Through his involvement with the Rent-A-Fridge project, Mullins has gained confidence through realistic work experience.

“There is a lot of guidance,” says Mullins. “Students are free to pick their own paths with the knowledge that the Coker faculty will do everything in their power to help.”

Mullins has, in fact, already picked his career path. “My plans are to open my own gym and have my own personal training business,” he says. At Coker, he’s learning the necessary skills needed to market and build a business in today’s competitive environment.

Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Mullins was drawn to Coker College by both academics and athletics, particularly the track and field and cross country programs and the small class sizes. After coming to Coker from a large high school, a smaller classroom setting was a welcome change. He is also an avid fan of the energy on campus, the Cobras, the school’s colors and events such as the school formal, the Fall Ball.

Mullins is the recipient of both the Track College Scholarship and the Bell Tower Scholarship. “I’m blessed in the sense that I was one of the lucky ones to get a scholarship,” he says. “It means that every move that I make on campus counts, and I want to better myself and the people around me.”
