It’s no secret that college students are pursuing their education, at least in part, to land that dream job after graduation day — but have you ever asked yourself what you could do now to make your degree as lucrative as possible?

When you’re in school, the words “financial aid” can feel overwhelming. How are you supposed to figure out all that paperwork? Who’s eligible to receive tuition assistance, and who do you ask for help when you have questions? Answer: We got you.

Big Mistake #1: Assuming Financial Aid is for OTHER People

There’s more than one type of financial aid out there, including loans, work study, grants, scholarships, and more. Chances are, you’re eligible for something. You can find out which options are available to you by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Fill this out every. single. year.

Big Mistake #2: Neglecting the Due Dates

When it comes to college, deadlines are no joke — and we’re not just talking about turning in your homework on time. There are various federal and state grants, providing both need-based and merit-based assistance for college students. If you miss the application deadlines, you’re out of the running. Complete FAFSA and other financial aid paperwork by the established deadline so you don’t miss out on free funding for college.

Big Mistake #3: Not Asking for Help

We get it. Talking about money is tough, but trust us, not asking questions when you’re unsure can lead you into even more uncomfortable situations. Sound scary? It doesn’t have to be. That’s why the Office of Student Accounts at Coker College is hosting our first annual Minutes to Success event on April 4th, 5th, and 6th.

Everyone is invited (and attendance is required if you’re planning on signing up for classes next semester or entering room draw). We’ll be answering all those questions about financial aid that you’ve been too afraid to ask, and also offering some tips and tricks to ensure you get the most bang for your buck! See the schedule and more details HERE.
