There are numerous ways the internet has altered how we communicate with one another. The way we communicate online has changed significantly over time, from the early period of bulletin board systems and chat rooms to the present era of social media and instant messaging. You would sometimes communicate on your Nintendo handheld device to communicate with others. This piece will evaluate the risks and benefits associated with some of the most significant developments to online engagement over the years.

The manner that online engagement has expanded with accessibility is one of the biggest shifts. Fewer people had access to the internet in their early years compared to the current day. Today, almost everyone has access to the internet, which has greatly increased the number of people conversing online. Both good and bad things have come out of this. Positively, it has made it a lot simpler for individuals to interact with one another, regardless of where they are or what their background is. Online communities and support groups have been able to form as a result, which was previously impossible. On the downside, it has also contributed to the growth of online abuse and harassment as well as the development of echo chambers where those with similar viewpoints can support one another. People may now connect with one another in real-time from any location thanks to platforms like email, instant messaging apps like WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, and video conferencing tools like Zoom and Google Meet. Further, social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter have made it simple for users to communicate with and share information with sizable audiences. Overall, technology has made internet communication much faster, easier to access, and more convenient.

Students can now access course materials and attend lectures from any location at any time, due to the ubiquitous availability of the internet and improvements in online learning platforms. This has improved accessibility and flexibility for students, particularly those who might not be able to attend conventional brick-and-mortar schools. Teachers may now use interactive resources like games, simulations, and movies in the classroom thanks to technology. Students learning has become more dynamic and interesting as a result, which has improved their memory of the information. You are now taking online tests, which have different benefits. It might be easier for the teacher to put together, or even grade. Students are able to collaborate easier, for example sharing a Google doc! Sharing these documents has become so easy because you can type on the same paper. Also, many assignments you turn in are Google docs online. Nowadays it is very common to read books and assignments online instead of a hefty textbook. Online educational videos have greatly expanded the scope of what can be taught in a classroom and the resources that students can use to learn.

In conclusion, internet communication has evolved significantly over time and will likely continue to do so. It has expanded in accessibility, instantaneity, and sociality. Along with these positive developments, there have been some unfavorable ones as well, such as an increase in online bullying, harassment, false news, and disinformation. It is crucial that we are aware of these risks and take action to lessen them. As we continue to utilize the internet responsibly and productively, we should also acknowledge how online engagement has improved our lives.
