Every minute counts.

The title of We Live in Time comes across as a vague statement, carrying little meaning to anyone on the surface. But after walking out of the theatre, it’s clear to me now the thought behind its name. Time doesn’t wait for us. Our lives exist in the moment, and that’s how we should be living it.

Am I surprised this turned out as well as it did? Not really. It’s a romance starring Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield. These two just felt like a perfect duo for a film like this. Regardless of the film’s execution, it was bound to be watchable solely for seeing two of the best actors working today bounce off each other on screen. As it turns out, the film itself happened to be pretty decent too.

The story spans across different phases and years of Almut (Florence Pugh) and Tobias’s (Andrew Garfield) relationship, telling their story in a non-linear style. Typically when a non-linear narrative doesn’t have an interesting or creative reveal from its story structure, I tend to label the choice as a bit gimmicky. Yet here, I think We Live in Time deserves an exception.
