Hi guys!

We have wonderful news for every Collabio Spaces user! We at Collabio Spaces have decided to extend the capabilities of the local P2P collaboration technology. From today, we’re testing our remote P2P collaboration feature that enables private cloudless co-authoring for peers who work across different cities and countries.

With a mention on TechCrunch, it’s definitely worth your attention! It allows you to co-edit documents privately from almost anywhere on Earth!

*** Important Information!***

As part of our test phase, we are offering these capabilities to every user for free. You will be helping us to explore the boundaries! There may be network configurations where remote P2P connection will not be available for some of the peers located inside Symmetric NAT network.

The good news is that there are no extra charges involved! Also, there are different options for trial periods (up to 14 days!), so you can have a test drive of all Collabio Spaces features, including the ones in beta. :)

  • If the remote P2P collaboration technology works with your network, congrats! Then you can keep up with the times and new technologies and enjoy super-private, real-time cloudless collaboration!
  • If it doesn’t work in your network, don’t worry. We’ll soon release a stable version of this technology compatible with any network configurations!

Well, that’s all you should know before we start. Let’s go!

The Concept of New-Era Remote Collaboration

What’s new in the latest release of Collabio Spaces?

  • Previously, our users could only co-author documents with people nearby. This still works without the Internet connection but Wi-Fi hotspot is necessary to find your colleague’s devices. So, if you want to use it, check that every participant has their Wi-Fi hotspot turned on or is Wi-Fi connected to the same spot (everything depends on the router’s network setup).
If you need to connect to a collaboration session nearby, see this piece.
  • Now you can use remote P2P collaboration to view and edit text documents and spreadsheets of peers in different continents. All you need is an active Internet connection and Collabio Spaces installed on every co-author’s device. The session will be held, and data stored exclusively, on the document owner’s device. You can be sure that unauthorized users won’t access your private documents.

This option allows users to co-edit private documents together with their remote colleagues connected through the Internet. However, nothing leaves your device and no hacker can intercept even a byte of information!

Key Benefits of P2P Collaboration

  1. Privacy
Our innovative collaboration technology protects your privacy. Nobody can access the documents if you don’t allow it, even at a glance (unless they peek at your iPhone)! ;) The Internet connection is necessary only for your devices to find each other on the web.
  2. Convenience
You can start the collaboration session anytime, with anyone who has Collabio Spaces on their device. Stop suffering in attempts to reinvent the wheel, connect the team — brainstorm together and create new universes! Is that possible without clouds? Absolutely!
  3. Saving money
You have already paid for an iPhone or iPad. These devices are more powerful than the one that sent humans into space. Remove the cloud dictatorship and spend money on a new iPhone 12 Pro, not on extra servers!

Are you interested in trying it out? Discover how it works on iOS and macOS:

How It Works on iOS

1. Click on the antenna icon to enable the “Instant collaboration” menu. Select “Start collaboration.”

2. From the appeared menu, you can choose whether you need to collaborate with nearby or remote colleagues:
— If you need to share the editing session with people nearby, copy a PIN code and share it with your co-authors.
— If you are going to collaborate with remote teammates, partners or clients, click on “Share” and choose how you are going to send a link. The app will actually copy the link to the document you want to co-edit, and the recipient will be able to click on it and access your document.

To stop a collaboration, open your shared file and tap on the antenna icon filled with the white colour. A newly appeared window will show three options:

How to join editing your remote teammate’s document

1. Ask your teammate to provide you with a link.

2. Click on this link and it will take you to your default browser (in most cases, it will be Safari).

3. Click “Launch app.” If you don’t yet have Collabio Spaces installed, click on the button “Download it now.”

4. Collaborate on the document! If the owner closes it or ends the session, you will see the message “Owner has ended the session.”

If you need to connect to a collaboration session nearby, see this piece.

How to Collaborate via P2P on macOS

1. Start the session by clicking on the Collaboration button, in the upper right corner. The app will show this menu where you can move the slider near the “Start collaboration” phrase:

2. Send the link to a temporary co-editing session to anyone who has Collabio Spaces and an active Internet connection, anywhere.

To collaborate with teammates nearby even without connection to the web, send them a PIN to access your document and co-edit it.

How to Join Editing Someone’s Document

Everything is the same as on iOS. Follow the link, see the message “Open Collabio Spaces” and click “Open.” Note that only people who have Collabio Spaces installed can join the session!

We hope that you are the lucky one whose network configuration allows remote P2P connection! We’re doing our best to make this feature available for everyone. Stay tuned and be the first to update and get the most out of your Collabio Spaces!
