Salil Parekh
Collaboration Manual
2 min readJun 27, 2017

Image two entities, A and B. Both these entities are accomplished in their respective fields. Then one day, A and B meet each other. After talking to each other, both realise that they could immensely benefit from working together. So, they decide to start working together. But they quickly find out that its a lot easier said than done to work together. How does one work with someone who has different value systems, working habits and even taste in music? (No really, who can work while listening to death metal, seriously?)

An example of a good collaboration, nice no?

I’m attempting to figure out the best practices for collaboration and try to create something that can inform those who want to enter a collaboration. A manual, or a handbook perhaps that one can refer to before, during, and after a collaboration. As organic as collaborations may seem to be, there’s a lot one can do, by making informed decisions to ensure that the partnership doesn’t hit rough patches.

its all quite blurry at the moment

I hope to collect insights from those heavily involved in collaborative activities, spot patterns and behaviours, collect case studies, stories, and try to understand what is needed to make a collaboration work. At the end of 6 months, I hope to turn the page on a publication, or click a button on a website to see the end result of my work which I desperately hope will help others in collaborating.
