Things I should be doing today

(instead of writing this)

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…

I keep reading lists on Medium of all the things I should be doing to make my life shiny and wonderful.

Frankly, I’m a bit sick of them.

So, in a spirit of lighthearted retaliation, here are my lists for the weekend:

Things I should be doing today

  1. shopping for groceries
  2. cleaning out my fridge
  3. defrosting my freezer
  4. washing clothes
  5. preparing dinner
  6. vacuuming the house
  7. changing the beds
  8. writing my novel
  9. editing my short story
  10. submitting it to a competition

Things I’ll be doing after this (instead of numbers 1–10)

  1. having a bath
  2. reading
  3. watching television
  4. drinking wine
  5. ordering a take-away

Things I might grudgingly do tomorrow (because I have to)

  1. washing clothes

Things I will definitely be doing tomorrow (to avoid doing some of the things I should have done today)

  1. writing my novel
  2. editing my short story
  3. submitting it to a competition

Things that will still be left undone by Monday

  1. shopping for groceries
  2. cleaning out my fridge
  3. defrosting my freezer
  4. vacuuming the house
  5. changing the beds

Things I will be feeling on Monday

  1. pleasure at writing over the weekend
  2. pleasure at reading over the weekend
  3. a teeny, tiny pang of regret at the state of the house

But, guess what? the housework will still be there for me to do (or avoid).

And, even if I’d done it all, it would soon be there for me to do again.

And what’s more, nobody died (yet) because I didn’t defrost my freezer.

Truly, a mind is a terrible thing to waste on housework.

If you enjoyed this, please give it a greenand come back for more soon.
